In August, 2017 we will be incorporating changes to our membership policies. We are simplifying the membership application, making it possible to join or renew online, and expanding member benefits. Our online application/renewal will be available soon. Until then, our new membership application/brochure is available. Click here to download it.
The changes are as follows:
The SBMC has two kinds of members: Individual and Household. A Household Membership provides membership benefits to up to four members of the same household, that is, sharing the same address. While we are no longer making a distinction between Performing and Associate Members, a member still must audition for the Concert Committee in order to join the roster of performers. That audition is separate from the membership application process. Please note that beginning in 2016, the Santa Barbara Music Club Board instituted rolling memberships. Your membership will be valid for one (1) year from the month you apply and pay dues and you will receive a renewal notification at the appropriate time. Please be aware that this new model is not yet reflected on the membership application form.
We are doing away with membership levels because member benefits have been the same for any level, so a membership will cost $35 for a single membership and $50 for a household membership. If you wish to contribute more—and you are encouraged to do so!—you may allocate funds to our scholarship program and/or to general operating expenses. We will now apply our traditional levels to your entire donation, as follows:
- $35 – $99 Schubert Supporter
- $100 – $249 Chopin Circle
- $250 – $499 Dvorak Donor
- $500 + Bach Benefactor
Your donation is fully tax-deductible and will be acknowledged on our Website, unless you request anonymity.
Members will receive reduced admission to events advertised in our newsletter. Many of these presenters now require proof of membership. All members will be issued this proof via email.
We have discontinued the Yearbook. The preparation, printing, and mailing of this publication has gotten more and more expensive over the years and quite frankly, we would rather give the money to our deserving scholarship students. Instead, we will be providing this information on our Website. We will feature a members-only directory similar to the Yearbook but kept up to date. Most of the other information is already available to the public on our website.
We will be making the SBMC archives available to members online. The archives will include past programs, performers, newsletters, photos, and reviews.Taken as a whole, they tell the history of music in Santa Barbara, and it is a varied and distinguished one. We plan to start the roll out of the archives this Summer.
